On Our Way

From where I live, Sebastian inlet is about a 2 hour drive, so that means waking up before 4 to get there around sunrise.

After a Groggy start to the morning, we arrived at Whitey’s Bait and Tackle. A stop that has become tradition at this point. If you are coming south on A1A, it will be on your right about a mile before you reach the inlet.

They have everything you will need for a day on the jetty

We Arrive

As you can see, we got there a little after sunrise, but the jetty was practically empty anyway.

If you have not been here before, it is $8 per car for the day and your ticket is good until midnight

There was hardly any wind , the ocean was calm as can be and the water was crystal clear. So clear you could see the massive snook and grouper swimming around the jetty.

We fished the north jetty today with the hopes of getting into some Spanish Mackerel. But even with all the bait around and the ideal conditions, the only word on everyone’s lips was snapper. Fat 14″ mangrove snapper have been holding tight to the jetty and rocks.

So, after catching enough bait in one cast, we got to work.

I put a bait on a 1/0 circle hook with a small split shot about 18″ from the hook and dropped it down by the pilings.

It did not make it to the bottom and up came this 12″ snapper. A good start

We caught a few more, holding out hope that the spanish mackerel would move in on the bait that was around, but no luck.

The snapper were easy pickings as long as you could get through the massive blue runners that would nearly rip the rod out of your hand if you weren’t paying attention.

One person managed to catch a big snook, they were being very lazy and had no interest in eating.

So after catching our limits and enjoying some sights, we got on the road home before noon, feeling satisfied with a good morning on the water.
